Capture Survey-Grade 3D Scans Without Setting Up Equipment
Most handheld scanners lose accuracy the moment GNSS signal weakens, because they depend on satellite positioning alone to know where they are in space. The Trion P2 X5 solves this by fusing three data sources, RTK, an integrated IMU and Visual-Inertial Odometry, so that when satellite signal drops the device doesn't stop tracking but switches to reading motion and visual landmarks instead. This is why the scanner can walk from an open outdoor site straight into a stairwell or basement without losing its position.
The IMU tracks physical movement in real time, while the VIO system cross-references that movement against visual features captured by the dual 12 MP cameras. SLAM algorithms then take this continuous stream of positional data and build it into a single coherent point cloud, rather than a series of disconnected scans that need to be manually stitched together afterward.
