The Laservii M1's 12-watt (12W) diode laser works well on many materials, but it emits visible-range light, and many bare metals reflect much of that light instead of absorbing it. Marking depends on absorption, so poorly absorbed light leaves faint or inconsistent results. This 2W infrared module uses a different part of the spectrum, which many metals absorb more readily.
That is why a lower-powered source can mark a surface the 12W diode handles poorly, because surface marking relies on absorption rather than raw power. The module is made for the M1 12W Enclosed Laser, so it works within the machine's existing enclosed setup.
