Scan Physical Parts Directly Into Your CAD Workflow
Most 3D scanners force a compromise: accurate on easy surfaces, unreliable on dark or reflective ones, and always tethered to a cable that limits how freely you can move around a large part. The Rockit resolves this through three distinct technical decisions.
First, the blue laser system uses 38 crossed and 7 parallel lines — not because more lines sounds better, but because overlapping projection angles mean the scanner reads geometry from multiple perspectives simultaneously, which is what allows complex curvature to be captured accurately in a single pass at up to 90 FPS. Second, blue-wavelength light has a shorter wavelength than red, meaning it scatters less when it hits low-albedo surfaces — which is the physical reason dark, matte, and reflective materials return a usable signal without preparation, where red laser scanners require spray coating or markers to compensate.
Third, the infrared VCSEL mode flood-illuminates the entire surface with structured light rather than building geometry line by line, which is why a full-body scan closes in around 60 seconds — the sensor is reading the whole form at once, not accumulating it. Hybrid texture and feature tracking maintains positional accuracy across surface transitions — curved to flat, textured to smooth — because relying on either method alone causes drift when the surface character changes mid-scan.
Finally, the fully wireless build isn't an ergonomic add-on: tethered cables physically restrict movement around large parts, and restricted movement produces incomplete scans — removing the cable is what allows consistent coverage of a full chassis, panel, or assembly.
Workflow Advantages
- Wireless freedom — Scanning without a cable means you can position yourself wherever the geometry demands — underneath a chassis, around a full panel, or inside a tight assembly — without stopping to manage a tether.
- No surface preparation — Knowing you can point the scanner at a dark composite part or polished surface and get a clean result removes a frustrating pre-scan ritual that breaks workflow momentum on real production jobs.
- Two modes in one device — Having laser HD and IR Rapid available in the same handheld means you're never under-equipped for the job in front of you — detailed part capture or rapid full-body digitisation, without switching instruments.
- 90 FPS capture rate — Moving through a scan at speed without watching data quality drop gives you the confidence to work efficiently rather than slowly and cautiously around complex geometry.
- Outdoor and bright-environment reliability — Being able to scan in an open workshop, a production floor, or outside without degraded results means your location and lighting conditions don't dictate your schedule.
- True-colour texture capture — Walking away from a scan with accurate surface colour already embedded means your model is ready for presentation, rendering, or review without a separate photography or texturing step.
- Full-body scan in 60 seconds — Capturing a large object in under a minute makes rapid iteration practical — you can scan, evaluate, modify, and re-scan within a single work session rather than across multiple days.
- Under 1 kg — A scanner you can hold comfortably for an extended session without fatigue means your physical endurance stops being a variable in the quality and completeness of your output.
- Three-hour battery life — Working through a full scanning session on a single charge — with a swappable battery available if needed — means power management doesn't interrupt your focus at a critical point in a scan.
Why Kyro Machines Recommends Shining 3D
The Einstar Rockit is manufactured by Shining 3D, a global 3D technology company established in 2004 with a broad product range across 3D scanning and printing.Their scanner lineup is used across automotive, industrial design, engineering, and heritage documentation applications. Shining 3D's scanner range is used by professional teams across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific, and the Einstar product line reflects their focus on accessible, high-performance scanning for applied professional use.
At Kyro Machines, we apply a selective approach to the equipment we carry. Each product in our range is evaluated against real-world professional use cases. The Einstar Rockit is included in our catalogue because it addresses a genuine gap: a wireless, preparation-minimal scanner that handles difficult surfaces reliably at a price point accessible to small teams and independent professionals. We provide Australian-based after-sales support for all equipment we stock, and we're available to assist with workflow questions, setup, and integration advice throughout the life of your machine.
