Get Reliable Dimensional Results on Difficult Parts, Without the Prep
Standard laser scanners struggle on reflective metal and dark composites because the surface either bounces the laser line away from the sensor or absorbs it entirely, so the scanner is left with too little signal to reconstruct geometry. This is why those parts normally need anti-glare spray or markers before scanning can even begin. The FreeScan Combo Plus avoids this problem by switching capture methods rather than forcing one method to work on every surface. Its Infrared VCSEL (Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) mode uses a different wavelength and sensing approach that isn't affected by the same glare and absorption issues, so it can read reflective and black surfaces directly, without any coating applied first.
For everyday surfaces, the Blue Laser system takes over, and its four modes exist because different geometry calls for different data strategies. Fifty parallel lines cover large, open surfaces quickly by capturing many points at once, while the 7-line fine mode slows this down deliberately, trading speed for the tighter point spacing needed to resolve small or detailed features accurately. Deep holes and cavities fail on multi-line scanners for a specific reason, since the walls of a narrow bore block most active laser lines from reaching the sensor, so the scanner loses data exactly where it's needed most. Dropping to a single laser line removes this obstruction, allowing the beam and its reflection to travel in and out of the cavity with a clear line of sight.
The 0.02 mm accuracy and 0.01 mm point distance follow directly from this mode-matching approach, because each surface type is captured with the method suited to it rather than one generic setting applied everywhere. This means the resulting point cloud holds its precision even on geometry that would otherwise force a compromise. Scan speeds of up to 3,600,000 points per second matter for the same reason, since having four modes available means high point density doesn't come at the cost of scanning time. As a result, switching between modes to handle different surfaces on the same part doesn't slow the overall inspection down.

Workflow Advantages
- Hybrid Blue Laser / Infrared VCSEL Scanning — Move between reflective metal, dark composites and standard surfaces on the same inspection run, without switching equipment or scheduling extra prep time.
- Marker-Free Infrared Scanning — Skip the anti-glare spray and marker setup entirely, so a part that would normally take extra preparation time can go straight into the scanning process.
- 50 Laser Line Multi-Line Mode — Cover large components in a fraction of the time single-line systems require, so high-volume or large-part inspection work stays on schedule.
- 7-Line Fine Scanning Mode — Resolve small or detailed features with the level of precision a formal dimensional report or CAD (Computer-Aided Design) reconstruction depends on.
- Deep Hole Scanning Mode — Capture bores, cavities and recessed features directly, rather than working around them with separate measuring tools or estimating the geometry.
- 0.02 mm Accuracy — Work to tolerances suited to formal quality sign-off, supplier audits, or reverse-engineering work that needs to match the original part exactly.
- Up to 3,600,000 Points Per Second — Get through inspection or reverse-engineering work faster, without trading away the point density needed for an accurate result.
- Optimised Camera Angles for Tight Spaces — Maintain a clean scan around tooling, fixtures or enclosed geometry, without repositioning the part or the setup mid-scan.
- Ergonomic, Compact, Lightweight Build — Stay steady and precise through longer inspection sessions or multi-part scanning runs.
